Combined Arms and Eol Advanced

By Military Police | February 3, 2010

This is just a post letting exclusive CA-only fans know that CA is currently up at the same time as Eol Advanced. This is being done as an experiment to see whether the populations of the two zones are mutually exclusive enough for it be viable that both zones be up at the same time. So far, this theory by a certain forum troll who shall remain unnamed, is proving invalid. However, there’s still some time left to prove that it works. So if you’re a CA player that’s currently taking an Infantry vacation, feel free to hop on.

Changed to 18v18. The zone also has 100k starting cash and class change enabled in dropship now. The cash and class change were just to sync it with the rest of the CTF zones.

February Rotations

By Military Police | January 30, 2010

The February forecast is up at the Rotation Center. Rotations are scheduled to occur on Monday, February 1st. We’d like to have Eol Advanced up on that date, but there might be a couple days delay, because the dev’s work has slowed down by all the crashes. So we’ll see.

Infantry Reloaded

By Military Police | January 25, 2010

Dear Infantrinians, our planet is dying. Whoops, wrong speech. I’d like to share the response to the proposal with you, as promised. The PS3 option is not going to happen. So the players who were losing sleep wondering how they’re going to keep up their rate of trolling and flaming using a controller, do not need to worry about that. The idea of a donation system was shot down due to legal issues. The idea of inviting a community programmer shared the same fate, for the same reason. SOE will be looking at improving the communication so that system reboots can occur in a more timely manner. So that is how the proposal was received.

Despite that, SOE would like to continue officially supporting Infantry. They would like to get a patch in without community funding. I’m not sure exactly when this will happen, but they understand the urgency of the matter and will hopefully move as quickly as the bureaucratic engine allows them. I’m sorry I couldn’t say that tomorrow the game is being patched, but this is pretty decent as long as it happens fairly soon.

Infantry Continuity

By Military Police | January 23, 2010

The last couple days on the game have been something of a disaster. I apologize to the community for what’s being experienced, but Satori and I both find ourselves facing a problem wherein the issue is not a shortage of problem solving willpower, but rather a shortage of capacity. We’ve developed a proposal that’s being presented to management to see if the complication can be rectified through a few different routes.

One of these ideas is to place Infantry on the PS3 Network and make it a game that is purchased at a low price. The revenue from that should help get Infantry more programming support than what we currently have (i.e., zero). It is also reasonable to assume that our population would grow immensely if that were carried out. It is unknown at the moment if the PC and PS3 versions would be compatible, but that is ideal.

The other idea is to open up a donation bin and raise funds from our community to prioritize a patch that the game desperately requires. I know that many players have voiced that they’d be more than willing to pitch in if it meant no more hacking and server stability.

Another option is to get permission to allow a skilled programmer from our community to make a trip to SOE’s office and work on a patch. I know this might sound funny to some of you, but I have heard programmers in our community talking about their willingness to patch the game for free. Unfortunately, this work would have to be done locally, since SOE does not allow remote access to such privileged data.

Finally, there’s the remedy of Satori and/or myself being given remote access to reboot the system. That way, when we do have a crash and go into SAM, the game can be rebooted right away and thus reduce the damage done. This is clearly the least ideal resolution in this proposal, but it’s better than nothing.

Please keep in mind that what I’ve outlined are simply points in a proposal. All of this is tentative and I’m not sure if any of it will actually occur. I just wanted to let everyone know that Satori and I are very concerned about what’s happening and this is what we have right now in terms of attacking the issue. Thanks for being patient and hopefully we’ll see some positive change soon.

Skirmish Scout Weakened

By Military Police | January 20, 2010

Scout is going to be kept in Skirmish, but it has been weakened in its firepower. Scouts no longer have shotgun. Scouts start with two grenades, instead of three. Scouts spawn with no LAWs. Scouts can still pick up LAWs and fire them, but won’t have any added to their inventory upon spawn/respawn.

Hack Intervention Team (HIT)

By Military Police | January 19, 2010

I’m not confirming that I’m bringing HIT back, but I’d like to gather applications for now in order to get an idea of who’s interested. HIT members are not moderators. HIT members will be given the ability to ban hackers when moderators are not online. This is a step to ensure that hackers are banned at all times of the day, even low coverage periods. Applications from very active players, and players with minimal rule violation records, are encouraged. Please email headmod@gmail.com with the following template to apply for HIT (use subject ”HIT Application”):

Primary Alias:
Infantry hours per week:
What time of the day do you usually play?
Main Zone(s):
Are you also interested in being a regular mod?
